Travertine sinks

Travertine is one of the most evocative stones of Mediterranean architecture: porous, warm, rich in veining and nuances that tell the geological history of the material. A travertine sink is a design object that transforms the bathroom into a sensory space, where light plays with natural cavities and the surface lives over time.

To keep it beautiful and long-lasting, daily care and natural polishing are essential.

At Venetian Gold, we can provide a consultation to help you choose the best travertine that best matches your bathroom.

How to Clean Travertine: From Daily Routine to Routine Maintenance

It is important to know that travertine is a limestone, therefore sensitive to acids and aggressive products.

For daily cleaning, all you need is warm water and a neutral detergent specifically for natural stones, applied with a soft microfiber cloth.

Absolutely avoid vinegar, lemon, harsh limescale removers, or strong degreasers: they can affect the surface, dull it, or create streaks.

After each use, dry the travertine sink with a dry cloth to avoid waterlogging and limescale deposits.

Once a week, you can do a deeper clean with an enzymatic cleaner or diluted neutral soap, rinsing thoroughly. If you notice grease or makeup stains, apply a white clay or baking soda compress with water for 15-20 minutes, then gently remove.

For sanded or polished finishes, use only soft cloths and never abrasive sponges. For hammered or brushed finishes, you can use a soft-bristled brush to remove dirt from natural cavities, without scratching.

How to Polish Travertine Naturally: DIY Techniques and Professional Tips

Polishing the travertine sink naturally means enhancing its beauty without resorting to synthetic waxes or harsh chemicals.

The most effective and safe method is the use of natural oils (such as linseed oil or sweet almond oil) combined with a paste of beeswax and natural turpentine, applied by hand in circular motions.

Proceed by doing these steps:

– clean the surface perfectly and let it dry completely;

– apply a very thin layer of linseed oil with a soft cloth, let it penetrate for 10–15 minutes, then remove the excess;

– after 24 hours, apply a beeswax paste (dissolved in a bain-marie with a little’ of natural turpentine) with a cloth, polishing in circular movements until it becomes shiny;

– let it dry for a few hours, then polish with a clean microfiber cloth.

This treatment nourishes the stone, protects against stains and gives a warm, natural shine.

Repeat every 3-6 months, depending on use.

For smooth finishes, you can also use a wool cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to revive the shine between treatments.

Avoid synthetic waxes or silicone-based polishes: they create an artificial coating that dulls over time and traps dirt. Travertine lives best when it breathes.
