Technical characteristics of Rochebelle

Geologically it is a sedimentary rock with a predominantly carbonate matrix (high purity biolytic limestone/limestone). As a carbonate stone, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, and harsh anti-limescale cleaners). Nonetheless, it stands out from the more common limestones for its excellent density and remarkable structural hardness, which give it excellent resistance to compression and freeze/thaw cycles. To preserve its integrity and prevent the absorption of stains, it requires adequate background hydro-oil-repellent treatment. It lends itself beautifully to sanded, brushed, sandblasted, bocciardate or hand-worked finishes.
