Vicenza Stone - yellow sandstone of natural origin

Technical characteristics of the Vicenza Stone

Geologically it is a sedimentary rock of organogenic origin with a predominantly carbonate matrix (calcarenite/bioclastic limestone, sometimes improperly defined as sandstone in commercial contexts due to its granular workability). As a calcaritic stone, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, and anti-limescale detergents) and has the porosity typical of soft calcarenites. It offers extraordinary ease of carving and processing, and tends to consolidate and darken slightly over time in contact with air. It requires high-quality hydro-oil-repellent treatments to protect it from stain absorption and moisture.

Applications in design

– sculptures, moldings, and Palladian architecture: the material of choice for ornamental sculpture, capitals, cornices, portals, balustrades, columns, and hand-carved architectural decorations.

– interior cladding and accent walls: ideal for vertical cladding of large walls in salons, lobbies, living areas and spaces of historical or contemporary value.

– chimney frames and furnishing accessories: widely used for the creation of period or modern fireplaces, niches, consoles and custom-made furnishing accessories.

– vintage and rustic-chic interior flooring: used for interior flooring in brushed, sanded or hand-spent finish (subject to suitable stain protection treatment).

– garden and exterior architectural elements: used for vases, fountains, statues and traditional exterior cladding in temperate climates (with appropriate water-repellent treatments).
