Onyx Iris Light al Contro is a scenic and refined natural limestone onyx mined in selected deposits in Iran and Mexico. The wording “on the other hand” indicates that the sawing of the block occurs parallel to the layering planes (cross cut or pitched cut), a process that smooths the classic linear veins to allow a soft, flowery, haloed and clouded pattern to emerge.
Visually, it presents a translucent and ethereal background in shades of cream, ivory and straw yellow, enriched by concentric halos, nuanced patches and delicate clouds in shades of honey, amber and pale pink. The counter cut enhances the three-dimensionality of the stone and its exceptional ability to penetrate light, making it a first-level material for LED backlight projects.
Geologically it is a sedimentary rock of chemical origin (calcareous onyx/alabaster) with a microcrystalline carbonate matrix. It offers a marked natural transparency, but shares all the vulnerabilities typical of calcitic materials: it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine and acidic detergents) and is subject to scratches and abrasion. It requires specific hydro-oil-repellent treatments, careful installation and gentle maintenance, making it suitable mainly for decorative and representative applications.
