Rainbow Onyx is a scenic and luxurious natural limestone onyx mined in select mining basins in Mexico and the Middle East. It is recognized in high-end design for the extraordinary richness of its color layers and the high degree of translucency of its mineral components.
Visually, it has a layered or clouded structure depending on the direction of cutting of the block (vein cut or cross cut). Its color tablet ranges from golden yellow and amber to honey, pale pink, light green, ivory and rust. The combination of these shades creates a plastic and vibrant pattern, particularly enhanced by the use of LED backlighting, which transforms the plates into true bright fifths.
Geologically it is a sedimentary rock of chemical origin (calcareous onyx/alabaster) with a microcrystalline carbonate matrix. Its crystalline nature ensures a marked transparency in light. However, as a carbonate matrix stone with low surface hardness, it is extremely sensitive to acids (such as lemon, vinegar, and wine) and susceptible to scratches or mechanical abrasion. It requires hydro-oleorepellent protective sealants and gentle maintenance, preferring decorative installations with a high aesthetic impact.
