Onyx Arco Iris Vein Cut is an exotic and spectacular natural limestone onyx mined predominantly in selected deposits in Latin America (particularly Mexico) and the Middle East. Unlike the “cross cut” version, “Vein Cut” sawing (cutting in the direction of the vein) occurs orthogonally to the bedding planes, highlighting the clear linear succession of mineral sediments.
Visually, it is distinguished by a pattern of perfectly defined parallel bands and streaks, which create a dramatic effect of chromatic bands in shades of golden yellow, amber, honey, pink, jade green, ivory and rust. The crystalline and translucent structure of its layers makes it one of the most physically suitable and impactful materials for LED backlighting, capable of transforming mineral bands into true beams of colored light.
Geologically it is a sedimentary rock of chemical origin (calcareous onyx/alabaster) with a predominantly carbonate matrix. Its crystalline microstructure gives it high transparency to light. However, as a carbonate rock with reduced relative hardness, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, and anti-limescale cleaners) and is vulnerable to scratches. It requires expert installation, specific protective treatments, and careful selection of intended uses, favoring high-quality furniture contexts and decorative coatings.
