The Striato Olimpico is a marble of extraordinary graphic impact extracted in the renowned quarries of Greece, a natural stone that embodies a rigorous, almost hypnotic aesthetic, conceived by nature itself to integrate perfectly into the canons of contemporary and minimalist design. Unlike traditional veined marbles, where the mineral pattern usually follows sinuous, unpredictable, and irregular paths, the Striato Olimpico is distinguished by its extraordinarily longitudinal, taut, and parallel veins, which appear to be traced with the precision of a ruler on a technical table.
The surface presents itself as a chromatic stage of extreme refinement, characterised by an icy white or very light grey background, almost silvery, crossed by a dense and rhythmic series of horizontal lines that fade into the shades of anthracite grey, smoke and deep cerulean. This natural geometry, so rare in the mineral kingdom, generates an optical effect of extreme linearity and perspective, possessing the intrinsic ability to visually soar architectural spaces, dilating their volumes and giving them a sense of higher order, formal cleanliness and modern dynamism.
Technically speaking, Striato Olimpico is a crystalline marble characterized by excellent compactness and a hardness of about 3-4 on the Mohs scale. Its mineral structure is particularly appreciated because it allows for “counter-pitched” cutting, essential for enhancing the linearity of its veins. The surface achieves a flawless mirror polish, which amplifies its chromatic depth, but also lends itself beautifully to the polished or brushed finish for a silkier, more matte effect. Being a marble, it possesses the typical sensitivity to acids, but its particular ruled texture has the unique ability to camouflage the joint lines between the slabs very well, allowing the creation of visually infinite surfaces.
