Onyx White Veined is one of the most striking and decorative varieties in the onyx family, renowned for its bold, graphic character and crystalline lustre.
Against a milky white or ivory background, sinuous veins intertwine, varying in colour from smoky grey to amber gold, and even reaching very warm rust or burgundy shades. Unlike Iranian or Pakistani varieties, which tend towards a soft, cloudy appearance, veined Turkish onyx often features sharper, more defined lines, evoking the fluid movement of currents or the stratifications of glaciers. It is the material of choice for those who wish to combine the ethereal translucency of onyx with a strong visual character, capable of furnishing a space through the natural and vibrant pattern of the stone alone.
From a technical perspective, White Veined Onyx is a chemically formed limestone alabaster characterised by a layered structure that gives it its rich veining. It has a hardness of approximately 3 on the Mohs scale, classifying it as a soft and delicate material, susceptible to scratches, abrasions and the corrosive action of acidic substances such as lemon or vinegar. Its virtually zero porosity allows for a mirror-like polished finish of extraordinary depth, which enhances the contrast between the translucent parts of the background and the more opaque, saturated veins.
