White Labradorite, often marketed as White Labradorite or Lemurian White, is one of the rarest and most spectacular gemstones in the world, mined primarily in Madagascar. Despite its name, it belongs to the feldspar family and is technically a variety of anorthosite.
Aesthetically, it features a translucent pearl-white or ice-grey background, but its true magic lies in the optical phenomenon of labradorescence: embedded within the stone are crystals which, when struck by light, emit electric flashes of cobalt blue, neon blue and, at times, golden or violet reflections. This play of colour creates an almost three-dimensional effect of depth, transforming each slab into an iridescent mineral firmament. Unlike traditional marbles, White Labradorite offers a dynamic and almost hypnotic luxury, capable of changing its appearance depending on the observer’s angle. It is the material of choice for high-profile projects, where natural stone ceases to be merely a cladding to become an architectural gem that takes centre stage in the space.
From a technical perspective, Labradorite Bianca is a stone of exceptional hardness, with a rating of approximately 6–6.5 on the Mohs scale. It is extremely resistant to scratches, heat and abrasion, far surpassing the performance of common marbles. Its structure is compact and less porous, ensuring good resistance to surface stains. A polished finish best enhances the metallic iridescence of its internal crystals, maximising the visual impact of the labradorescence.
