Shangril La is an extraordinary and exotic natural granite quarried in the rich and ancient stone basins of South America (with renowned selections from Brazil) and also appreciated in Asian markets. Celebrated in contemporary architecture and high-end design for its expressive power and exceptional mechanical performance, it represents a stone material of great luxury, dynamism and visual impact.
Visually, it is characterized by an intense and dramatic background matrix in tones of ruby red, amaranth, brick and rust, furrowed and embellished with an overwhelming inlay of fluid veins, flaming and translucent crystals in tones of obsidian black, quartz grey, cream, gold and antique rose.
Geologically it is an intrusive/metamorphic magmatic rock (granite or quartzite) with a predominantly silicate composition (quartz, feldspars and micas). As a strictly silicate matrix material with no carbonate components, it does not react to food or household acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, juices or common detergents) and is not subject to acid attack opacification. It has a very high hardness (Mohs scale 6–7), exceptional resistance to abrasion, scratches and thermal shock, together with a very low liquid absorption rate.
