Rosso Mangiaboschi is a historic and fascinating natural red marble quarried in the famous marble basins of Valpolicella and the province of Verona, Italy. Belonging to the renowned Veronese nodular family, it represents an ornamental stone of great tradition and value, traditionally linked to monumental, Venetian and high-end architecture.
Visually, it presents an intense and characteristic background matrix in shades of terracotta red, brick, burgundy and rust, animated by a rich nodular texture and a dense texture of veins, stylolites (natural pressure lines) and shades in shades of pink, cream, ivory and light brown. The varied yet balanced design gives the surfaces a warm, structured and aesthetically very welcoming appearance.
Geologically it is a metamorphic/sedimentary rock (nodular limestone/ammonite red) with a predominantly carbonate composition (calcite). Being a strictly carbonate matrix material, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, juices and anti-limescale detergents) and is subject to immediate opacification or corrosion when exposed to acidic substances. It has excellent compactness and good mechanical strength; however, the presence of natural stylolytic lines makes traditional vacuum resin and back screening processes advisable during sheet processing.
