Rosso Carpazi is a characteristic and enveloping natural marble extracted in the mining basins of the Carpathian chain (with important deposits located mainly in Romania). Celebrated in the architecture of Central and Eastern Europe for its chromatic warmth and its marked materiality, it represents an ornamental stone of great tradition and strong scenic presence.
Visually, it is distinguished by an intense and varied background matrix in shades of terracotta, rust, burgundy and amaranth, finely crossed by a dense interweaving of veins and calcitic nodules in shades of ivory white, antique pink, cream and pale grey. The alternation between the red chromatic masses and the light mineral branches gives the surfaces a dynamic, three-dimensional and extremely welcoming appearance.
Geologically it is a metamorphic/sedimentary rock with a predominantly carbonate composition (calcite/dolomite). Being a strictly carbonate matrix material, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, juices and anti-limescale detergents) and is subject to immediate clouding or corrosion when exposed to acidic substances. It has excellent compactness and good mechanical strength properties; nevertheless, the presence of natural grain and brecciation makes the usual resin and back screening processes appropriate during sheet processing. It stands out at its maximum aesthetic value with the mirror-polished finish and sanding, expressing great charm even with the antique-effect brushing.
