Rosso Barocco – red marble of natural origin

Rosso Barocco is a scenic and luxurious natural red marble quarried in Italy’s prestigious mining basins (with important historic quarries located in northern Italy and Sicily). Celebrated in the history of architecture for its opulent and theatrical style, from which it inherits the name linked to the artistic era of the same name, it represents an ornamental stone of profound nobility and marked decorative value.

Visually, it is distinguished by a rich and dramatic background matrix in shades of ruby red, amaranth, terracotta and burgundy, strongly moved and embellished by a dense interweaving of veins, brecciations and flaming in shades of pure white, cream, antique pink and ash grey. The sharp contrast and vivacity of the design gives the surfaces an overwhelming dynamism and extraordinary three-dimensionality.

Technical characteristics of the Rosso Barocco

Geologically it is a metamorphic/sedimentary rock with a predominantly carbonate composition (calcite/dolomite). Being a strictly carbonate matrix material, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, juices and anti-limescale detergents) and is subject to immediate clouding or corrosion when exposed to acidic substances. It has good structural compactness and fair mechanical strength; however, its variegated nature and dense grain benefit from the usual resin and back-screening processes during sheet processing.

Applications in design

– impressively prestigious vertical flooring and cladding: ideal for the creation of ornamental flooring, skirting boards, cornices and wall cladding in state rooms, luxury hotels and historic residences.

– bookmatch compositions: the marked expressiveness of the veined movement favors their mirrored pose for scenographic walls with a high emotional and aesthetic impact.

– bathroom and vanity top rooms: highly appreciated for furnishing vanity tops, shower walls and scenographic niche coverings (after applying suitable stain-resistant treatments).

– Interior architecture and design elements: an excellent choice for creating tops for dining tables, consoles, portals, monumental fireplaces, cornices, and marble inlays.
