Technical characteristics of the Onyx Red Turtle

Geologically it is a sedimentary rock of chemical origin (calcareous onyx/calcareous alabaster formed mainly by aragonite and calcite). As a strictly carbonate matrix material, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, juices, and anti-limescale detergents) and is subject to rapid clouding or corrosion when exposed to acidic substances. It has a low surface hardness and a marked mechanical delicacy, requiring rigorous vacuum resining and back screening processes during processing. Its key technical property is the extraordinary translucency of the aragonitic component, which allows for deep and homogeneous scattering of light. It stands out to the highest level with the mirror polished finish and fine sanding.
