Fior di Pesco Apuano is a famous natural brecciated/veined marble of historic Italian origins, traditionally extracted in the Apuan Alps basin (Tuscany), particularly in the Massarosa area and the province of Lucca. Highly appreciated since the Baroque period and neoclassical architecture, it is an ornamental stone of refined elegance, famous for its delicate chromatic palette that recalls the tones of peach blossoms.
Visually, it features a soft polychrome background with shades ranging from pale pink, antique pink, burgundy and purplish red to pearly grey and ivory, finely furrowed by a dense inlay of veins and small clasts in shades of pure white, cream and light grey. This chromatic interweaving gives the surface a deep, fluid appearance and marked compositional harmony.
Geologically it is a metamorphic rock with a carbonate matrix (Apuan calcitic marble). Being a material with a predominantly carbonate matrix, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine and anti-limescale detergents) and is subject to opacification or corrosion in contact with acidic substances. Its venato-clastic structure has natural micro-porosities that require the usual resining and consolidation interventions during the processing of the slabs. For use indoors or in contact with liquids, it requires the application of an appropriate hydro-oil-repellent protective treatment. It stands out best with mirror polished finish, sanding or brushing.
