Salomè – natural grey marble

Turkish Salomè marble is a natural stone of extraordinary beauty and a distinctly artistic character. Quarried from Turkey’s rich marble deposits, this marble stands out sharply from monochromatic and minimalist stones, presenting itself as a true work of abstract art shaped by nature over the millennia.

Its aesthetic is complex, vibrant and bold. Visually, Turkish Salomè is characterised by a deep, turbulent background colour, which continuously blends between shades of anthracite grey, dark dove grey and a sophisticated burgundy or plum. This dark base is literally transformed by a dense, chaotic network of veins and mineral inclusions ranging from intense pink to salmon, verging on hints of ivory white and touches of gold or orange. The visual result is a ‘flaming’, asymmetrical pattern, capable of infusing any surface with a sense of perpetual movement and incredible material energy.

Technical characteristics of Salomè

From a geological and structural point of view, Turkish Salomè is a crystalline calcareous marble characterised by good compactness and excellent density. Its varied mineral composition responds exceptionally well to mirror polishing: this finish, in particular, enhances the depth of the dark background and intensifies the vibrancy of the pink and burgundy pigments, giving the slab an almost glass-like sheen.

For projects with a more contemporary and velvety feel, it is sometimes given a matt polish or brushed finish (leather finish), which softens the colour contrasts and gives it a texture that is softer to the touch. As this marble is rich in veining and mineralogical variations, it is primarily intended for indoor use and requires the application of suitable water- and oil-repellent protective treatments to preserve its lustre and prevent acidic substances or staining agents from damaging the surface.

Design applications

Perfect for:

– vertical cladding and feature walls: used in full slabs to clad the focal walls of large living areas, hotel lobbies or luxurious executive offices. In these settings, the ‘open-joint’ (or ‘book-matched’) laying pattern transforms the stone into a monumental natural artwork.

– furniture tops and designer tables: much loved by interior designers for creating spectacular dining tables, coffee tables and majestic reception or bar counters, where the surface becomes the focal point of the entire room.

– exclusive bathrooms: it features in the design of high-end bathrooms for cladding shower walls and, above all, for creating monolithic washbasin tops that complement metal taps beautifully in brushed gold, bronze or matt black finishes.

– Architectural details: used for decorative inlays, frames for modern fireplaces and statement flooring in geometrically defined areas, to avoid visually overloading the space.
