Fossena Stone is a natural stone of exceptional refinement and a distinctly contemporary character, quarried mainly in the stone-quarrying regions of North Africa (particularly in Tunisia).
Visually, it stands out for its extraordinarily uniform and compact base, characterised by a sophisticated colour palette ranging from mud grey to light brown/taupe. The surface is embellished with very fine veins and imperceptible fossil inclusions that bear witness to its authentic sedimentary origin, giving it a deep, velvety visual texture whilst maintaining a minimalist aesthetic rigour. This understated elegance and its warm, neutral tones make it one of the most favoured materials among interior designers and avant-garde architects, ideal for designing modern spaces that seek understated luxury, natural warmth and perfect visual harmony.
From a geological point of view, Fossena Stone is a compact limestone. It possesses good physical and mechanical properties and excellent resistance to foot traffic, making it suitable for intensive use. Like all sedimentary limestones, it has a slightly porous surface and is sensitive to strongly acidic substances; for this reason, it requires the application of suitable water- and oil-repellent protective treatments. It lends itself superbly to a honed or brushed finish, treatments that enhance its soft texture and the richness of its earthy and grey tones.
