Afyon Grey is one of Turkey’s most historic and highly regarded grey marbles, quarried in the famous quarries of the Afyonkarahisar region, an area renowned since ancient times for the quality of its stone materials. This marble is considered a benchmark for understated elegance and versatility, capable of blending naturally into both classic settings and ultra-contemporary spaces.
Aesthetically, Afyon Grey features a medium-light grey background, characterised by an extremely varied texture that can range from soft clouding to more pronounced veining. Its distinctive feature lies in its play of colours: the base grey is often enriched with smoky and silver hues, and occasionally light white or golden veins that lend dynamism to the slab without ever appearing excessive. It is a stone that conveys a sense of solidity and calm, ideal for those seeking an alternative that is less high-contrast than granites but warmer than pure white marbles.
From a technical perspective, Afyon Grey is a calcareous marble with a dense, uniform crystalline structure and a hardness of 3–4 on the Mohs scale. Its high density allows for a flawless mirror polish and ensures low liquid absorption. Although resistant to wear and thermal shock, it remains sensitive to acids, requiring protective treatments to preserve its integrity.
