Persian Silver Travertine (also marketed as Persian Silver Travertine, Iranian Silver Travertine) is one of the most fascinating and contemporary travertine varieties in the world, mined in Iran in the same high-quality mining districts as Walnut Travertine.
Unlike traditional travertines, it is distinguished by an unusual and elegant color palette with a warm, brownish base: the background varies from hazelnut brown to mud-colored, up to walnut and coffee tones, crossed by a dense and sophisticated network of veins shaded in shades of silver gray, anthracite, beige and cream. Depending on the cut of the block, whether against the brim (vein-cut, which highlights horizontal and linear striations) or in the brim (cross-cut, which creates a cloudy and pictorial design), the material offers a unique visual contrast between the earthy components and the silver reflections, giving it a modern character with a strong personality.
Geologically, it is a calcareous sedimentary rock formed by the precipitation of calcium carbonate from thermal waters. It has a natural vacuolar porosity that requires grouting and protective treatments to prevent fluid absorption. Having a carbonate matrix, it is not chemically inert and is sensitive to the opacifying action of acidic substances. Nonetheless, it offers remarkable compactness and excellent mechanical and frost resistance, ensuring extraordinary durability over time both indoors and outdoors.
