Royal Mahogany (also known on the market as Swedish Mahogany Royal, Mahogany Brown or Tribbhult Mahogany) is a famous and historic natural granite quarried in Sweden, mainly in the Småland region (in important mining districts such as Flivik and Tribbhult). It owes its famous and elegant name to its warm background color, which closely recalls the rich and prestigious shades of mahogany wood (mahogany).
Visually, it is distinguished by a medium-coarse grain crystalline structure, characterized by an extremely uniform, dense and compact distribution of minerals. Its appearance is dominated by large feldspar crystals in shades of burnt brown, mahogany red, terracotta and hazelnut, densely interspersed with inserts of transparent/bluish-grey quartz and black biotite or anthracite. This dense “constellation” of warm and cold tones gives the surface a deep, welcoming and solemn aesthetic.
Geologically, it is an intrusive magmatic rock belonging to the Baltic Shield, one of the oldest, most stable and resistant geological structures on Earth. This origin gives it physical and mechanical properties of the highest level, placing it among the most durable natural stones of all.
It enjoys a very high surface hardness that makes it extraordinarily resistant to scratches, continuous and intense trampling abrasion and accidental impacts. Its internal porosity is almost zero (with a water absorption rate of less than 0.1%), providing an excellent natural barrier against the penetration of liquids, oils, fats and moisture, preventing the formation of stains. As a material with an entirely silicate composition, it boasts total chemical inertia: it does not react or become opaque when in contact with acidic substances (such as lemon, vinegar, wine or household detergents).
– kitchen tops and countertops: frequently chosen in residential projects for its ability to combine the chromatic heat of wood with the total indestructibility of stone (resistant to heat, acids, scratches and stains).
– high-traffic paving: its exceptional grain homogeneity and hardness make it suitable for paving large, high-traffic surfaces (airports, stations, business centers, hotel lobbies, and shopping arcades) both indoors and outdoors.
– ventilated facades and external cladding: widely used in architecture for cladding building envelopes and valuable facades, thanks to its ability to withstand temperature variations and the most severe weather without undergoing alterations.
– funerary art and monumental architecture: historically one of the most appreciated Scandinavian granites for commemorative works, monuments and street furniture thanks to its visual royalty and unalterability over time.
