Labrador Antique Scuro – brown granite of natural origin

Labrador Antique Scuro (also known internationally as Labrador Antique Dark) is a prestigious and exclusive variant of Norwegian anorthosite, specifically selected for the particularly intense and deep hue of its background. Compared to the classic version, this selection offers an even sharper and more dramatic visual contrast, much sought after in modern minimalism and contemporary luxury projects.

Visually, it features an exceptionally dense and compact color base, dominated by dark-headed brown, graphite black, and dark chocolate. On this dark and monumental canvas stand out the large feldspar crystals typical of the material, which create the unmistakable iridescent effect (labradorization). When the surface is hit by light, the crystals suddenly ignite, giving metallic flashes in shades of electric blue, petroleum green, bronze, and gold. The almost black background amplifies the saturation of these reflections, transforming each slab into a night sky streaked with magnetic flashes.

Technical characteristics of Labrador Antique Scuro

Geologically, it is an intrusive igneous rock with a very high structural density and medium-large grain size. Mechanically, it ranks at the top of natural stones in terms of hardness and unalterability: its silatic composition guarantees total resistance to deep scratches, accidental impacts and wear from continuous trampling. Internal porosity is virtually non-existent, a characteristic that gives the material absolute natural impermeability and a total barrier against stains from liquids, fats and oils. Being chemically inert, it does not undergo any opacification upon contact with food acids (such as lemon, vinegar and tomato) and tolerates thermal shocks of high temperatures without any problem, preserving its mirror-like brilliance over time.

Applications in design

– Kitchen and island top: this is its application of choice; the dark base pairs masterfully with modern kitchens (both white and wooden or metal), offering a hygienic, indestructible, and visually striking countertop.

– luxury bathrooms: in high demand for floor-to-ceiling shower liners, block-cut sinks, and hanging tops, where the encounter with water enhances the natural brilliance of the blue crystals.

– reception desks and executive tables: used in commercial interior architecture and large hotels to create monumental wings and support floors that communicate solidity, prestige, and sophisticated design.
