Gran Fossil (also known in the stone market as Grand Fossil or Brown Grand Fossil) is a unique and highly decorative brown marble, quarried mainly in the famous sedimentary basins of Morocco. Much loved by architects and interior designers, he is renowned for his ability to combine the primordial charm of geological history with a contemporary and sophisticated elegance.
Visually, it features a warm, deep color base that ranges between burnt brown, mud, and dark chocolate tones. The extraordinary feature of this natural stone is the widespread and spectacular presence of prehistoric marine macro-fossils (mainly ammonites and orthocere) dating back hundreds of millions of years. These fossils, perfectly crystallized in shades of white, ivory, and light gray, create a sharp, dynamic contrast with the dark background, transforming each individual slab into a natural, three-dimensional work of art.
Geologically, it is a high-density organogenic limestone. Despite the abundant presence of fossil organic inclusions, the stone boasts excellent structural compactness and excellent compressive and flexural strength. Since it is a carbonate-based rock, its surface is sensitive to the action of acidic food substances (such as vinegar, lemon, or juices), which could compromise its brilliance if not adequately protected. It expresses its maximum visual splendor in the mirror-gloss finish, which saturates brown tones and brings out the sharpness of fossils, but is also extremely charming in a polished or brushed version for a more matte, silky and textured tactile effect.
