Fossena (commercially known as Grigio Fossena) is a highly prized authentic limestone marble quarried in Italy, in the famous stone basins of Sicily in the Custonaci area, much loved by avant-garde architecture for its rigorous and minimalist aesthetic.
Visually, this natural stone is distinguished by an exceptionally compact, homogeneous and uniform chromatic background, dominated by the elegant shades of mud grey, dove grey and smoky grey. The true aesthetic signature of the material lies in its very fine and discreet texture, embellished by a thousand-year-old presence of marine microfossils and imperceptible lighter calcareous veins. This composition gives the surface a natural depth, warm and velvety, ideal for infusing the rooms with a sense of whispered luxury, stability and absolute contemporaneity, celebrating the sober monochromatic elegance typical of the most refined Italian design.
Geologically, it is a compact, high-density limestone. Compared to other sedimentary stones, its structure is particularly solid and boasts excellent resistance to compression, bending and wear from continuous trampling. It has a rather low porosity coefficient, but given its calcium carbonate-based composition, it still requires adequate protection against food acids to preserve its finish. It expresses the maximum of its modernity and tactile elegance in smooth, satin or brushed finishes, which enhance a matte surface, soft and silky to the touch.
