Brown Collemandina (also known as Collemandina Marble or Breccia di Collemandina) is an Italian marble of extraordinary value and charm, extracted exclusively in the heart of Tuscany, specifically in the historic quarries located in Garfagnana, in the province of Lucca. It represents one of the stone excellences of the Apuo-Versilia district, famous throughout the world for the production of ornamental materials of the highest level.
Visually, it presents itself as a marble with a warm, intense and aristocratic personality. The color background is characterized by an enveloping shade of burnt brown, chocolate or chestnut, sometimes enriched with dark gray shades. The true aesthetic signature of this material is the spectacular and dense network of veins that runs through it: sharp, dynamic and geometric lines of pure white, ivory and pale pink create a sharp and vibrant colour contrast with the dark base. This contrasting design gives the surface a strong sense of movement, depth and innate elegance.
Geologically, it is a metamorphic limestone breccia formed millions of years ago. Thanks to its excellent compactness and fine crystalline structure, Brown Collemandine responds superbly to mirror polishing, the primary processing for this material as it saturates the depth of the browns and ignites the brilliance of the white and pink veins. Although structurally solid and capable of withstanding internal trampling, its calcareous nature makes it vulnerable to highly acidic substances, such as lemon and vinegar, which could dull its surface. It also has moderate porosity, which is why it requires the application of hydro-oil-repellent protective treatments to preserve its integrity and shine in contexts exposed to moisture or staining substances.
