Breccia Estrella (also known as Brecha Estrella) is a famous and highly prized marble quarried in Portugal, a country with a rich and renowned tradition of quarrying brecciated marbles unique in the world. The prestigious Portuguese provenance perfectly explains the genesis of its typical and complex geological structure: the Lusitanian territory is in fact famous for its marbles called “brechados”, in which the rock material transforms into an abstract framework shaped by millennia-old tectonic pressure.
Visually, this material maintains a mosaic appearance of extraordinary scenographic impact. The chromatic base blends harmoniously between the warm shades of brown, beige and dove gray, being continuously fragmented by crystalline clasts and veins in shades of white, ivory and pearl gray. The design is further embellished with thin gold or slightly pink veins, giving the surface a dynamism and three-dimensionality unique in high-end interior design.
Geologically, it is a Portuguese brecciated limestone marble of excellent compactness. It responds excellently to mirror polishing, workmanship that enhances the brilliance of its crystalline fragments and saturates the warm hues of the background. As a marble, it is composed mainly of calcite; it therefore has a solid structure for floors and interior cladding but, unlike granites, it is sensitive to food acids (such as lemon or vinegar) and requires classic stain-resistant protective treatments when placed in contexts such as bathrooms or kitchens.
