Azul Bahia is one of the rarest, most valuable, spectacular and iconic natural stone materials in the world, mined mainly in the famous state of Bahia, Brazil. Celebrated in the architecture of the highest luxury and in the author’s interior design for its extraordinary chromatic-crystalline saturation, it represents a true masterpiece of nature, a symbol of opulence and exclusivity.
Visually, it is distinguished by an intense, regal and vibrant background matrix in shades of cobalt blue, sapphire blue, indigo and lapis lazuli, crossed and embellished by a complex texture of veins, nodules and flamings in shades of pure white, cream, quartz grey and obsidian black. The dominant presence of sodalite gives surfaces a perception of extraordinary chromatic-crystalline depth and brightness.
Geologically it is a sodalite syenite / feldspathoid intrusive magmatic rock with a prevalent silicate composition (sodalite, microcline, albite and aegirine). As a strictly silicate matrix material with no carbonate components, it does not react to food or household acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, juices or common detergents) and is not subject to acid attack opacification. It has high hardness (Mohs scale 5.5–6), great resistance to abrasion and scratches, combined with a low liquid absorption rate.
– bookmatch compositions: an excellent choice for accent walls, luxury hotel lobbies, decorative wings, and state rooms where the cobalt blue texture creates true natural paintings.
– luxury kitchen tops and countertops: imparts strong customization to kitchen tops, islands, and bar counters, combining extraordinary aesthetic beauty with total immunity to food acids.
– designer bathroom and vanity rooms: widely used for scenic vanity tops, bathtub linings, shower walls, and wall coverings in elite residences.
– custom decor and design elements: perfect for making tops for dining tables, consoles, reception floors, artistic inlays and exclusive decor details.
