Turkish Yellow Travertine (known internationally as Yellow Travertine Turkey or Turkish Gold Travertine) is a renowned natural porous limestone mined in Turkey’s rich mining basins (particularly in the Denizli region). It is widely appreciated in interior and exterior architecture for the sunny nature of its nuances and for its strong material character.
Visually, it has an intense and enveloping background in shades of golden yellow, mustard and ochre, crossed by thin streaks or nuanced clouds in shades of cream, hazelnut and rust. When cut counterfidally (vein cut) it shows the typical linear stratification of calcareous deposits, while with the pitched cut (cross cut) it offers a more homogeneous and flowery appearance.
Geologically, it is a sedimentary rock of hydrothermal origin with a carbonate matrix, characterised by the presence of natural pores and cavities (vacuoles). It can be worked with open pores for a rustic and natural effect, or filled with color resins or mastics to obtain a smooth surface. As a carbonate-based material, it is sensitive to food acids (such as lemon, vinegar, and wine) and requires hydro-oil-repellent treatments for use in intensive use areas.
– interior flooring and paneling: ideal for accent walls, state lobbies, continuous floors, and natural- and Mediterranean-flavored paneling.
– bathroom and wellness rooms: widely used for shower liners, solid sinks and bathroom countertops (after grouting and suitable surface protection).
– exterior architecture: particularly suitable for exterior flooring, pool edges and facade cladding, where brushed or tumbled finishes offer an excellent non-slip seal.
– custom elements: used for the creation of stairways, thresholds, windowsills, portals and chimney frames.
