Onyx Fantasia Red is one of the rarest, finest, and most visually striking stone materials in the world, mined primarily in deposits in Balochistan Province, Pakistan. Famous in the interior design of the highest luxury for its marked translucency and the complexity of its mineral designs, it represents a true work of natural art.
Visually, it stands out for an extraordinary nuanced color variety: a dominant matrix in shades of ruby red, rust, terracotta, and burgundy intertwines with sinuous concentric layering, cloudiness, and veining in shades of amber, honey, ivory, quartz white, and rose. This complex overlapping band structure gives the slabs exceptional depth and unique decorative charge.
Geologically it is a sedimentary rock of chemical origin (calcareous onyx/calcareous alabaster consisting mainly of aragonite and calcite). Being a strictly carbonate matrix material, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, juices and anti-limescale detergents) and is subject to immediate opacification or surface corrosion upon contact with acidic substances. It has a low surface hardness and a marked mechanical delicacy, requiring support resining and back screening during processing. Its most outstanding technical feature is its microcrystalline transparency, which allows light to penetrate deeply. It expresses itself to its maximum potential with mirror polishing and fine sanding.
