Onyx Tiger vein cut – natural red onyx

The Onyx Tiger Vein Cut represents the specific cut-against-water table (vein cut) processing of the famous natural limestone onyx extracted from deposits in Pakistan. By sectioning the block parallel to the sedimentary bedding planes, this technique brings to the fore a clear pattern of defined stripes and bands, maximizing the “brindle” effect and the natural geometry of the stone.

Visually, it presents a rigorous and suggestive development of parallel lines and horizontal or vertical bands: a dense succession of sharp streaks in shades of terracotta red, rust, burgundy and burnt orange, alternating with linear bands in shades of amber yellow, honey, cream, ivory and dark brown. Compared to the cut in the direction (cross cut), the cut against the brim gives the surfaces an extremely modern, orderly and architecturally rigorous appearance.

Technical characteristics of the Onyx Tiger vein cut

Geologically it is a sedimentary rock of chemical origin (calcareous onyx formed mainly by aragonite and calcite). Being a strictly carbonate matrix material, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, juices and anti-limescale detergents) and is subject to immediate clouding or corrosion when exposed to acidic substances. The cut against the aquifer highlights the natural layering planes, accentuating the mechanical delicacy along the joint lines; for this reason, the slabs are systematically consolidated with vacuum resining and reinforcing screening on the back.

Applications in design

– backlit walls: The linearity of the bands combined with the pronounced translucency makes it a top-notch choice for LED backlit walls with a “striped” effect in luxury lobbies, reception areas and elite lounges.

– bookmatch cladding: ideal for vertical cladding where color lines run seamlessly across large living room and suite surfaces.

– bar counters and reception desks: highly appreciated for its front cladding and the tops of reception desks and scenographic counters with a contemporary character.

– bathroom and vanity top d’élite rooms: used for vanity tops, shower walls and impact niches (after applying suitable water-oil-repellent treatments).
