Onyx Volcano is an extraordinary and exotic natural limestone onyx mined in Pakistan’s renowned deposits. Celebrated in high-end interior architecture for the dramatic scenography of its design, it evokes in its name and appearance the visual energy and chromatic power of magma and fire.
Visually, it is distinguished by an intense and highly dynamic background in shades of fiery red, terracotta, burgundy and rust, crossed by marked fluid streaks, mineral swirls and translucent flames in shades of amber yellow, orange, honey, ivory and smoky black. The strong contrast between the incandescent fields and the dark or translucent veins gives the slabs a three-dimensional depth and a highly expressive character.
Geologically it is a sedimentary rock of chemical origin (calcareous onyx/calcareous alabaster consisting mainly of aragonite and calcite). As a stone with a strictly carbonate matrix, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, juices and anti-limescale detergents) and is subject to immediate opacification or corrosion if in contact with acidic substances. It has a low surface hardness and a marked mechanical delicacy, requiring the usual processes of vacuum resining and reinforcing back screening on the sheets.
