Lericy (commonly known on the market as Breccia Lerici or Lerici Marble) is a historic and fascinating polychrome marble of natural origin extracted in Italy, specifically in the historic quarries located near Lerici and the Gulf of Poets, in Liguria. Geologically related to the famous family of Ligurian veined marbles and breccias (such as Portoro), it is a very rare and sought-after material due to its strong decorative character and its deep connection with the Italian architectural tradition.
Visually, it features a warm, personality-rich color background that ranges from shades of burnt brown, dark gray, and mud. Its true aesthetic signature is the spectacular brecciated structure: the surface is densely furrowed by a dense network of veins and angular clasts in shades of yellow ochre, gold, cream and calcareous white. This sharp, vibrant color contrast creates a natural, asymmetrical geometric design, giving surfaces a unique, almost pictorial visual dynamism.
Geologically it is a clastic limestone (a breccia) formed through the natural cementation of pre-existing rock fragments. From a structural point of view it has good compactness and an excellent polishing ability. Since it is a carbonate-based marble, it has the typical sensitivity of limestone to the action of acidic food substances (such as vinegar, lemon or tomato juice), which can dull its surface if not adequately protected by sealing treatments. It expresses its maximum aesthetic power in the glossy finish, capable of saturating the warm shades of brown and lighting the golden veins, but it is also extraordinarily fascinating in a polished or antique version, which enhances its historical and material nature.
