Travertino Noce Persiano (also marketed as Persian Walnut Travertine, Iranian Walnut Travertine, or Walnut Travertine) is a prestigious and elegant natural stone material mined in Iran, a country famous for its renowned travertine deposits.
Visually, it stands out clearly from classic beige travertines for its rich, deep and enveloping colour palette. The background is dominated by warm shades ranging from hazelnut brown to chocolate, to terracotta, walnut and burnished shades. Depending on the direction of cut of the block, whether against the slope (vein-cut) or in the slope (cross-cut), the stone shows a marked layered horizontal grain or a soft, cloudy texture, enriched with subtle ochre, beige and cream nuances. Its typical vacuolar structure features natural cavities and pores that can be left exposed for a rough, textured effect, or filled with chromatically coordinated resins, mastics, or cements.
Geologically, it is a calcareous sedimentary rock formed by the precipitation of calcium carbonate from thermal waters. It has a natural vacuolar porosity that requires grouting and protective treatments to prevent fluid absorption. Having a carbonate matrix, it is not chemically inert and is sensitive to the opacifying action of acidic substances. Nonetheless, it offers remarkable compactness and excellent mechanical and frost resistance, ensuring extraordinary durability over time both indoors and outdoors.
