Polichrome – natural brown granite

Polichrome is a highly renowned natural granite quarried in Canada, specifically in the province of Québec (in the Rivière-à-Pierre area, a historic quarrying district of global significance).

Visually, it is distinguished by a beautiful, solid medium-to-coarse-grained structure, characterised by a very uniform and compact distribution of minerals. It boasts a warm and elegant colour palette: the background is dominated by shades blending burnt brown, golden beige and hazelnut, densely interspersed with feldspar and quartz crystals in shades of smoky grey, black and ivory. This dense ‘constellation’ of warm and cool colours gives it a look that is at once vigorous, deep and welcoming.

Technical characteristics of Polichrome

Geologically, it is an intrusive igneous rock (specifically, a monzogranite/anorthosite) formed within the exceptionally rich Canadian Shield. Composed mainly of quartz, feldspars and biotite, it possesses exceptional mechanical properties that make it one of the hardest and most reliable stones on the stone market. It offers extremely high resistance to scratches, heavy foot traffic and accidental impacts.

Its natural porosity is virtually zero, a characteristic that guarantees a virtually non-existent rate of liquid absorption and excellent resistance to stains caused by moisture, grease, oil and coffee. It is unaffected by the corrosive action of acidic foodstuffs commonly used in the kitchen (such as lemon or vinegar), remaining immune to any loss of lustre. Furthermore, as a rock native to cold climates, it withstands extreme frost, frequent freeze-thaw cycles, thermal shock and UV radiation impeccably, retaining its colours intact even in outdoor settings exposed to the sun.

Design applications

– kitchen worktops and work surfaces: highly sought-after for high-end kitchens thanks to its hygienic properties, total resistance to heat from hot pans and a speckled texture that effectively conceals crumbs, dust and fingerprints.

– large-scale flooring and staircases: often used to cover areas with very high footfall (such as airports, railway stations, hotels and business centres), both indoors and outdoors, providing a durable and robust surface.

– ventilated façades and external cladding: thanks to its exceptional resistance to frost and the most aggressive weather conditions, it is ideal for protecting and decorating the exteriors of major commercial and residential buildings.
