Labrador Antique – brown granite of natural origin

Labrador Antique is a famous and spectacular anorthosite (commercially classified as granite) mined in Norway. It is one of the most fascinating and recognizable natural stones in the world, highly sought after in high-end interior design and monumental architecture for its unique visual and magnetic impact.

Visually, it features a warm, deep color background in shades of dark chocolate brown and brown, enriched with anthracite-gray shades. The true aesthetic wonder of this material lies in the large feldspar crystals that dot its structure: these crystals are endowed with a marked labradorization (changing reflections), which creates sudden flashes of light in shades of sapphire blue, turquoise, bronze and purple when the surface is hit by light. This three-dimensional, “starry” effect transforms the stone into a living, dynamic surface.

Technical characteristics of Labrador Antique

Geologically, it is an intrusive magmatic rock with a very high structural density. Composed predominantly of plagioclase, it boasts exceptional mechanical properties that place it at the top for durability and strength. It offers total resistance to scratches, chipping and heavy foot wear. Its porosity is practically zero, which results in excellent natural waterproofness and total resistance to oil, wine and coffee stains. Furthermore, the rock is chemically inert: it is in no way afraid of corrosion by food acids (such as vinegar or lemon) and resists thermal shocks of high temperatures beautifully, maintaining its luster unchanged over time.

Applications in design

– kitchen tops and monolithic islands: thanks to its absolute indestructibility and bluish reflections that contrast with the brown background, it is a material of choice for exclusive and hygienic countertops.

– accent paneling and dramatic walls: widely used in prestigious salons, hotel lobbies, and executive offices, where crystal light displays create dynamic and luxurious decorative backdrops.

– state floors and stairs: perfect for large interior and exterior formats, thanks to its exceptional hardness and total resistance to frost and UV rays.
