Brown Antique (also known commercially as Antique Brown or Marrom Antique) is an exotic granite of extraordinary elegance and prestige, quarried predominantly in Angola’s rich geological basins. It is considered one of the finest and most sought-after dark stone materials in the world for luxury interior design projects.
Visually, it has an extremely deep dark chocolate brown, almost black background. The true magic of this stone lies in its crystalline structure: the surface is dotted with large and spectacular macro-crystals of labradorite and feldspar which, when struck by light, create a fascinating iridescent effect with metallic reflections ranging from bronze, to old gold, to silvery and purplish hues. This internal luster (iridescence) gives the material a unique three-dimensionality and a nocturnal, magnetic appearance.
Geologically, it is an anorthosite, an intrusive magmatic rock with exceptional and above-average technical properties. This material boasts extreme density and hardness, characteristics that place it at the top of the category for resistance to wear, deep scratches and accidental impacts. Its entirely silicate composition makes it chemically inert, ensuring total unassailability by acidic substances commonly used in cooking, such as lemon juice or vinegar. Furthermore, thanks to virtually zero natural porosity, Brown Antique has a very low absorption coefficient, effectively repelling moisture and protecting the surface from stains from pigmented liquids such as oil, wine and coffee.
