Ardesia Nera is a natural stone with a magnetic and timeless charm, quarried mainly in the deposits of Liguria, particularly in the Lavagna area, from which it derives its historical name, ‘Pietra di Lavagna’. This metamorphic rock represents the pinnacle of monochromatic elegance: its black is deep, dense and opaque, capable of absorbing light in a diffused manner, creating atmospheres of absolute rigour and sophistication.
Aesthetically, it is characterised by its laminar structure, which allows for ‘natural split’ processing, revealing a textured surface that is slightly undulating and vibrant to the touch. Unlike glossy, artificial blacks, Black Slate maintains a visceral connection with the earth, displaying a silky texture that never tires the eye. It is the material of choice for those seeking understated luxury, capable of harmonising with industrial style, Nordic minimalism or conservation-oriented restoration, always offering a sharp chromatic contrast and great architectural character.
From a technical perspective, Ardesia Nera is an extremely compact, non-porous schistose rock, a characteristic that makes it naturally waterproof and frost-resistant. It boasts excellent resistance to bending and thermal shock, making it structurally stable over time. Although it does not match the hardness of granite, its mineral density prevents the absorption of stains and liquids. The natural split surface offers a high slip resistance coefficient, whilst its ease of maintenance ensures superior longevity in any environmental condition.
