Rosso Antico d’Italia – red marble of natural origin

Rosso Antico d’Italia is a historic and elegant natural red marble quarried in Italy’s prestigious mining basins (with important historic quarries located in the Venetian Prealps and Liguria). Celebrated since Roman times and the Renaissance for its ornamental value and profound chromatic nobility, it represents a pillar of the stone tradition and of Italian monumental architecture.

Visually, it presents an intense and enveloping background matrix in shades of ruby red, dark terracotta, burgundy and amaranth, finely embellished with glazes, limestone spots and thin flamings in shades of pale pink, ivory white and cream. The soft distribution of pigments and the fine grain size of the rock give the surfaces a noble, warm appearance and extraordinary visual depth.

Technical characteristics of the Rosso Antico d’Italia

Geologically it is a metamorphic/sedimentary rock with a predominantly carbonate (calcite) composition. Being a strictly carbonate matrix material, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, juices and anti-limescale detergents) and is subject to immediate clouding or corrosion when exposed to acidic substances. It has excellent compactness and high structural density; nevertheless, sheet processing benefits from traditional resin and back screening treatments to ensure maximum stability. For use in indoor environments subject to humidity or stains, it requires proper protective hydro-oil-repellent sealing.

Applications in design

– high-quality flooring and cladding: a first-rate choice for the creation of interior flooring, cornices, skirting boards, and wall cladding in historic homes, private residences, and representative public spaces.

– bookmatch compositions: the delicate nuances and light flashes lend themselves perfectly to mirrored poses for charming accent walls in salons and reception areas.

– bathroom and vanity top rooms: used for scenic vanity tops, shower wall coverings and bathtubs (after applying appropriate stain-resistant treatments).

– furnishing elements and classic architecture: ideal for creating tops for tables, consoles, portals, columns, inlay elements and paneling for period and contemporary fireplaces.
