The Breche de Vendome is one of the most sumptuous, rare and exclusive historical brecciated marbles of French origin. Traditionally quarried in the Loir-et-Cher region, near the town of Vendôme (Centre-Val de Loire), France, it is a monumental material that has marked the history of classical French architecture, used for centuries in the decoration of the Loire castles and the palaces of the transalpine nobility.
Visually, it offers a spectacular pictorial composition with a brick red, purplish and deep burgundy background, embellished with large clasts and angular mineral fragments in shades of golden yellow, ochre, cream, ivory, pink and grey-purple shades. This extraordinary chromatic-geometric richness gives the stone an unmistakable visual dynamism and three-dimensionality.
Geologically it is a sedimentary/metamorphosed clastic carbonate rock (limestone-matrix brecciated marble). Being a predominantly carbonate matrix material, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine and anti-limescale detergents) and is subject to opacification or corrosion when exposed to acid-corrosive substances. Its complex and heterogeneous clastic texture makes traditional resin, screening and consolidation interventions essential during the processing of the slabs to saturate the porosities and ensure their mechanical stability. For indoor use, it requires a high-quality hydro-oil-repellent treatment. Maintains excellent shine with mirror polished finish, sanding or brushing.
