Rosso Collemandina – red marble of natural origin

Rosso Collemandina is one of the most prestigious, rare and fascinating Italian red marbles, extracted exclusively in the Garfagnana basins (in Tuscany, in the municipality of Villa Collemandina), Italy. Celebrated in Renaissance, Baroque, and contemporary design architecture for its extraordinary elegance and profound chromatic intensity, it represents an absolute excellence of Italy’s stone heritage.

Visually, it presents an intense, dark and majestic background matrix in shades of burgundy, amaranth, pomace and dark sienna, densely furrowed by a lattice of marked and elegant veins in shades of pure white, ivory and ash grey. The strong chromatic contrast between the dark background and the calcitic ramifications gives the stone a scenographic, deep and highly personality-like appearance.

Technical characteristics of Collemandina Red

Geologically it is a metamorphic rock (metamorphosed brecciated limestone) with a predominantly carbonate composition (calcite). Being a strictly carbonate matrix material, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, fruit juices, and anti-limescale detergents) and is subject to immediate clouding or corrosion when exposed to acidic substances. It boasts excellent compactness and high structural density; however, due to its veined and brecciated nature, the slabs are traditionally subjected to refined vacuum resining and back screening processes. For use in indoor settings in contact with water or staining substances, it requires careful protective hydro-oil-repellent sealing.

Applications in design

– luxury flooring and vertical siding: an excellent choice for creating top-notch interior flooring, cornices, baseboards, and wall coverings in private residences, boutique hotels, and historic buildings.

– bookmatch compositions: the strong definition of the white veins on the amaranth background enhances the mirrored pose for the creation of spectacular accent walls in salons, lobbies and reception areas.

– designer bathroom and vanity top rooms: widely used for scenic vanity tops, shower wall coverings and hot tubs (after applying appropriate stain-resistant treatments).

– architectural and interior design elements: perfect for creating dining table tops, consoles, monumental portals, upholstery, marble art inlays, and highly prestigious fireplace surrounds.
