Rosso Toscano is a fascinating and historic natural red marble extracted from the rich stone basins of Tuscany, Italy (with historical affinities with the red limestones and jaspers of the Apuo-Versilia and Siena districts). Celebrated in the great Italian Renaissance and ecclesiastical architectural tradition, it represents an ornamental stone of notable nobility, capable of infusing elegance, warmth and historical value into interior spaces.
Visually, it is characterized by a rich and enveloping background matrix in shades of terracotta red, brick, burgundy and sienna, embellished with a fluid texture of veins, brecciations and thin calcareous branches in shades of ivory white, cream, pink and light grey.
Geologically it is a metamorphic/sedimentary rock with a predominantly carbonate (calcite) composition. Being a strictly carbonate matrix material, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, juices and anti-limescale detergents) and is subject to immediate clouding or corrosion when exposed to acidic substances. It has excellent compactness and good mechanical strength; nevertheless, the presence of the veined lattice makes the usual vacuum resining and back screening processes appropriate during sheet processing. For use in indoor settings in contact with liquids or staining substances, it requires proper hydro-oil-repellent protective sealing.
