Rosso Verona – red marble of natural origin

Rosso Verona is one of the most iconic, historic, and universally recognized red marbles in the global stone tradition, quarried in the famous basins of Valpolicella and the province of Verona, Italy. An emblem of Italian classical, Romanesque, and Renaissance architecture (historically used for the Verona Arena, the Baptistery of Parma, and countless European monuments), it represents an ornamental stone of immense historical value, warmth, and timeless elegance.

Visually, it presents an unmistakable background matrix in shades of terracotta red, brick, rust and orange pink, characterised by the typical nodular structure (known as Ammonite Red) and enriched by a rich texture of stylolites (natural pressure lines), shades and small fossils in shades of cream, ivory and pale pink.

Technical characteristics of Rosso Verona

Geologically it is a sedimentary/metamorphic rock (nodular limestone/ammonite red) with a predominantly carbonate composition (calcite). Being a strictly carbonate matrix material, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, juices and anti-limescale detergents) and is subject to immediate clouding or corrosion when exposed to acidic substances. It has excellent compactness and good structural density; nevertheless, the presence of natural stylolitic lines and fossil cavities makes traditional vacuum grouting/resinning and back screening processes advisable during slab processing. For use in indoor settings in contact with water or staining substances, it requires proper hydro-oil-repellent protective sealing.

Applications in design

– prestigious vertical flooring and cladding: an excellent choice for creating interior flooring, skirting, cornices, and wall cladding in period residences, historic buildings, churches, and luxury hotels.

– classical architectural and sculptural elements: historically used for the creation of columns, capitals, balustrades, monumental portals, steps and solid-hewn washbasins.

– bathroom and vanity top rooms: widely used for refined vanity tops, shower walls and bathtub linings (after applying suitable stain-resistant protective treatments).

– inlaid compositions and fireplaces: perfect for creating artful marble inlays, table tops, decks, and classic and traditional fireplace surrounds.
