Rouge du Roy – red marble of natural origin

The Rouge du Roy is a majestic and heraldic natural red marble quarried in the historic stone deposits of France (with affinities and selections traditionally linked to the rich limestone basins of the south of the country and the historic Franco-Belgian quarries). Connected in the collective imagination to the palatial and monumental architecture of the classical and Baroque periods, it represents an ornamental stone of excellent prestige, historically used to enrich high-representation spaces and royal residences.

Visually, it is distinguished by an intense, regal and deep background matrix in tones of ruby red, burgundy, amaranth and garnet, finely traversed by an elegant and balanced texture of veining, nuances and flaming in tones of pure white, cream, antique pink and ash grey.

Technical characteristics of the Rouge du Roy

Geologically it is a metamorphic/sedimentary rock with a predominantly carbonate (calcite) composition. Being a strictly carbonate matrix material, it is highly sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine, juices and anti-limescale detergents) and is subject to immediate clouding or corrosion when exposed to acidic substances. It has excellent compactness and good mechanical strength; nevertheless, the presence of the veined lattice makes the usual vacuum resining and back screening processes recommended during sheet processing to ensure maximum stability. For use in indoor settings subject to moisture or staining substances, it requires meticulous protective water-oil-repellent sealing.

Applications in design

– luxury vertical flooring and cladding: an excellent choice for creating interior flooring, skirting, cornices, and wall cladding in historic buildings, period residences, and high-end hotels.

– bookmatch compositions: the strong definition of the light-veined lattice on the burgundy background enhances its mirrored pose for the creation of scenographic accent walls in salons and state lobbies.

– bathroom and vanity top rooms: widely used for refined vanity tops, shower walls and bathtub linings (after applying suitable stain-resistant protective treatments).

– elements of classic architecture and design: perfect for making tops for dining tables, consoles, monumental portals, art inlays, altars and cladding for classic and traditional fireplaces.
