Onyx Avion Blue is one of the rarest, most exotic, and finest natural limestone onyx in the world, mined primarily in select mining basins in Iran and Turkey. Although the overall matrix may feature rich veins and golden halos, it is characterized by a cold and dreamy chromatic background that clearly distinguishes it from the classic yellow onyxes.
Visually, it has a striking clouded background in shades of sugar paper blue, aviation blue, jade green and tourmaline grey. This water base is embellished with warm and marked intrusions, veining and cloudiness in shades of golden yellow, ochre, amber and honey. The extraordinary translucency of its crystals makes it one of the most spectacular materials ever when combined with LED backlighting, which lights up the contrast between the blue background and the warm veins.
Geologically, it is a sedimentary rock of chemical origin (calcareous onyx/alabaster) with a carbonate matrix and a highly transparent microcrystalline structure. Being a carbonate-based stone with reduced surface hardness, it is extremely sensitive to food and chemical acids (such as lemon, vinegar, wine and anti-limescale cleaners) and is prone to scratches. It requires high-quality hydro-oil-repellent treatments, careful installation and gentle maintenance, preferring decorative or representative installations protected from heavy mechanical wear.
