Onyx Vetro is one of the rarest and most spectacular varieties of onyx quarried in Pakistan; a material that defies the perception of solid stone, approaching the transparency of synthetic crystal. Aesthetically, it features an almost entirely translucent ice-white or pearl-grey background, devoid of the dense clouding typical of other onyxes.
Its texture is characterised by absolute crystalline purity, interrupted only rarely by very fine linear or circular veins in shades of rust, gold or ash grey. Unlike the more opaque varieties, Onyx Vetro possesses a visual depth that allows the eye to penetrate the thickness of the slab, creating an effect of a “solid void” reminiscent of a block of ice freshly extracted from a perennial glacier. It is the definitive material for contemporary luxury, capable of blurring the boundary between nature and avant-garde design through a cool, aristocratic luminosity.
From a technical perspective, Onyx Vetro is a chemically formed limestone alabaster with an extremely compact yet delicate molecular structure, with a hardness of approximately 3 on the Mohs scale. Its most remarkable technical characteristic is its extremely high light transmission coefficient, superior to almost any other natural stone, making it comparable to industrial glass in terms of its backlighting capabilities. Although it is a soft material that is sensitive to acids and scratches, its surface achieves an impeccable mirror-like shine that enhances the refraction of internal light. Its processing requires extreme skill, as the purity of the base does not allow for the concealment of any natural micro-fractures, making every intact slab a true geological miracle.
